Members

Welcome to the Information Systems Association!


The purpose of the ISA is to provide UWL students the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the Information Systems field. Members will enhance their learning through guest speakers, member presentations, field trips and group activities designed around Information Systems. The ISA will also provide UWL students the opportunity to interact socially with ISA members outside of the traditional classroom setting to foster relationships that will last for a lifetime. The ISA will provide a key medium to network with prospective employers about careers and internship opportunities relevant to Information Systems. The ISA will provide members the opportunity to build leadership skills by serving as an executive board member.

Two representatives from Mayo Clinic IT divisions will be presenting information on Careers in Information Technology. Paul Steger, a director in Data Center Infrastructure Services, will discuss the various roles and responsibilities for different careers in IT. Gary Lamprecht, a director in Data & Architecture Services, will discuss a couple of different IT roles within the Data and Architecture Services Unit, including Enterprise data modeling and metadata management. The ISA meeting will be on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 in room 25 of the Wing Technology Center at 6pm.

On Wednesday November 4th, at 7pm on Wing 25, we are having Federated Insurance stop by. Two representatives from Federated Insurance, including a Project Manager and Analyst, will be speaking about entry-level positions, as well as how the IS Field applies in their business. They will be providing FREE Toppers & Topperstix for all our of members that show up! Please remember to bring your Membership fee of $10, if you haven't already done so.

On Wednesday October 7th, at 7pm on Wing 25, we are having a new speaker Scott Franke come and visit us. Scott Franke is the Technology Manager at Northwestern Mutual. Northwestern Mutual is an insurance company in Milwaukee, WI. Franke will be giving a presentation on Wed, October 7th at 7pm about interviewing skills, the job market in financial companies, and potential internships or entry-level positions at Northwestern Mutual.

The ISA had their first meeting for the year on Wednesday, September 16th.

We discussed possibilities for activities throughout the semester and ways to raise runds for our organization.

Congratulations to the 2009-2010 ISA Officers:

President: Eman Alihassan

Eman is a senior and planning on graduating in May 2010. She is majoring in International Management and double minoring in Information Systems and International Business. She currently interns at the YMCA with the business manager and the IS director. She also works at the YMCA as a Member Services Representative. She is from the Milwaukee area, more specifically Port Washington.

Vice President: Jon Benson

Jon is a Senior here at UW-L and is working towards and Information Systems and Computer Science double major. He is from Burnsville, MN and is currently working at Trane, Reslife, and for the I-S department on campus.

Treasurer: Adam Hughes
Adam is a senior this year majoring in Accounting and minoring in Information Systems. He intends to graduate in December 2010 and sit for the CPA exam. His hobbies include watching and playing both baseball and golf. Also, he has been interning at Trane this year.

Communications Director: Jenna Johnson

Jenna is a senior IS major graduating in December. She is from New Prague, MN and works for Business Objects in Downtown La Crosse.
