To all I-S Majors

We are making several changes to the I-S major.  We're very excited about the new courses and that our new sequence will be preparing our majors for the workplace of the future!  However, there will have to be a transition period between the old and the new.  The spring semester you will soon be registering for is the beginning of that transition.  Here's how the changes will affect students currently enrolled at UW-L:

The changes in their entirety will only affect students who enroll as freshman or transfer to UW-L and who are categorized as being under the new catalog that's coming out in the fall.  This means that all students currently enrolled can continue with their current plan with a few minor exceptions.  We are allowed to immediately enforce any prerequisite changes.  This means that I-S 401 will have new prerequisites as will I-S 330.  See below for a complete list.

Are you planning to take I-S 401 next fall?  If you have not taken any I-S electives, Dr. Wen will require that you take I-S 300 this coming spring as a prerequisite for I-S 401 next fall.  This can count as one of your two I-S electives.  If you have already taken any I-S elective (I-S 320, 330, 451, 499 or MGT 370 or 395), you may substitute that course instead of I-S 300.  Starting in fall 2004, I-S 300 and I-S 310 will both be prerequisites for I-S 401. 

Note that our new major will be 28 credits.  You will NOT be required to take that additional course - only new freshmen and transfers will be subject to that increase.  Here's how the new major will look (changes in prerequisites in parentheses):

C-S 120, 220, 364
I-S 300, 310, 330 (C-S 120 prerequisite), 401 (C-S 120, I-S 300 and I-S 310), 411
One elective from this list:
I-S 320, 400 (I-S 401), 451, 499
C-S 224, 464
MGT 370, 395
